Language Sample Analysis in Children With Cleft Lip and Palate

Objectives: Cleft Palate (CP) with or without Lip (CL/P) are the most common craniofacial birth defects. and (CLP) can affect children’s communication skills. The present study aimed to evaluate language production skills concerning morphology syntax (morphosyntactic) in children CLP. Methods: In current cross-sectional study, 58 Persian-speaking (28 CLP & 30 anomalies=non-clefts) participated. Gathering samples of was conducted using picture description method. 50 consecutive intelligible utterances were analyzed by Persian Developmental Sentence Scoring (PDSS), as a clinical morphosyntactic measurement tool. Results: PDSS total scores lower than those non-clefts children. A significant difference found between studied anomalies mean value (P=0.0001). Discussion: Children demonstrate poor ability for elements. Therefore, it should be considered how use grammatical components.
